TBILISI -- The Georgian Refugee Affairs and Shelter Ministry has reported on its 2009 activities regarding displaced people from Abkhazia, stating that it focused on repairing homes and providing housing to some 15,000 people, RFE/RL's Echo of the Caucasus reports.
Ministry head Koba Subeliani said that those who plan to return to Abkhazia will be able to keep their property.
Subeliani said if the ministry continues to work at a similar pace, most of the displaced people from Abkhazia will be provided with housing by 2012.
Subeliani said that in 2009, the Georgian government allocated 100 million lari ($60 million) for displaced people, and plans to spend a similar amount of money next year.
Between 200,000 and 240,000 ethnic Georgians were expelled from Abkhazia during the 1992-1993 and 1998 Georgian-Abkhazian conflicts.
