TBILISI -- Hearings into the case of 41 Georgian Army officers accused of attempt to illegally overthrow the government have started in Tbilisi, RFE/RL’s Georgian and Russian services report.
A court spokeswoman, Tamar Andriadze, told journalists that the defendants are also charged with the illegal seizure of military equipment.
In May, the officers of a tank battalion at Georgia's Mukhrovani military base organized a mutiny, which was suppressed by forces loyal to the government.
Georgian officials accused Russia of being involved in the organization of the mutiny at the time.
