A girls school has been blown up in Pakistan's northern Khyber tribal district, officials have told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal.
The girls' elementary school was located in the Malak Dinkhel area of Bara, a region controlled by the militant group Lashkar-e Islam until late 2009.
Officials said the school was blown up overnight on August 24.
The Agency Education Office in the Khyber tribal district said a total of 18 government schools have been destroyed in the area since early 2009. The recent incident is the second so far this week, officials added.
Bara is located some 15 kilometers southwest of Peshawar, capital of the nearby Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The Pakistani security forces are currently conducting an operation in the area against Lashkar-e Islam, which is headed by former bus driver Mangal Bagh.
