The chief nuclear inspector of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Olli Heinonen, who lead the agency's investigations into Iran and Syria, will leave his post for personal reasons after 30 years at the UN nuclear watchdog.
IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said Heinonen would leave at the end of August.
Heinonen, 63, headed the IAEA safeguards department, responsible for verifying that countries' nuclear programs are not being diverted for military purposes.
The IAEA said a successor is yet to be named.
