Ingushetia Officer Killed By Unknown Assailants

NAZRAN -- An officer in Ingushetia's Ministry of Emergency Situations has been killed by unknown assailants, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Ruslan Geroyev died after attackers opened fire on his car in Ingushetia's Sunzhen district.

His brother, Alikhan Geroyev, is chief of the Criminal Investigations Department in Sunzhen district.

About a month ago, Alikhan Geroyev’s sister was killed in a bombing at his house.

Investigations are under way.

Ingushetia is known as one of the most volatile republics in Russia's North Caucasus.
