UST-DZHEGUTA, Russia -- Police and security forces have killed three insurgents in the North Caucasus town of Ust-Dzheguta, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Karachayevo-Cherkessia's Interior Ministry said one policeman was injured during today's shoot-out, which resulted in the death of the insurgents.

The gunmen were wanted by local security forces for their alleged involvement in an attack against police in the town of Karachaevsk on November 10.

Hundreds of security forces, government officials, and insurgents have been killed this year in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region.
