Iranian journalist Nazanin Khosravani, who was arrested last week, is being held in solitary confinement in Tehran's Evin prison, her mother has told RFE/RL's Radio Farda.

Azam Afsharian, told Radio Farda on November 8 that she received a phone call from Khosravani earlier that day that put an end to five days' uncertainty about her whereabouts.

"In a phone call which lasted a few seconds, Nazanin told me this afternoon that she is being held in solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin prison," Afsharian said.

Evin prison's Ward 209 is run by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry.

Afsharian said Evin prison officials had previously informed her that her daughter's name was not on the list of prisoners held there. She added that her daughter is on medication for a heart condition.

On November 3, security forces detained Nazanin Khosravani in Tehran after searching her home and confiscating her computer and personal belongings. Afsharian said security forces also came to their home the next day to search it a second time.

Khosravani used to work for reformist papers such as "Norouz" and "Bahar," but is currently unemployed.

"As Nazanin has not had a job for the past seven months, it is not clear why she has been arrested," Afsharian said.
