Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Zahir Faqiri says he has urged Iran not to interfere in the "internal affairs" of Afghanistan, RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reports.

Faqiri was speaking a day after media reports quoted Fadd Hossein Maleki, Iran's ambassador to Kabul, as saying that Afghanistan "needs a coalition government."

Maleki also spoke about the high level of fraud in the Afghan elections.

Faqiri added that "Afghanistan is an independent country and can manage its own affairs. Therefore we urge Iran not to interfere into our internal affairs, as we don't interfere into theirs."
