An Almaty court has suspended operations of the Kazakh weekly "Alma-Ata Info" newspaper.
The paper's Vladimir Voevod told RFE/RL's Kazakh Service that the periodical's operations were suspended for one month in the court order.
"Alma-Ata Info" is an independent newspaper owned by Ramazan Esergepov. Esergepov was
arrested last month for "revealing state secrets" in an article that was published in the weekly.
Rights activists and independent journalists in Kazakhstan say that the charges against him are politically motivated.
Esergepov has been in jail since January.
