BISHKEK -- Former editors of the shuttered Kyrgyz newspaper "De Facto" say they will resume publication of that biweekly within three months, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
"De Facto" was founded in 2007 and its satire and biting criticism of then-President Kurmanbek Bakiev and the Kyrgyz government quickly made it one of Kyrgyzstan's most popular newspapers.
It was shut down by a Bishkek city court in July 2008. Its editor in chief, who RFE/RL is referring to as C.O. to protect her identity, fled the country with her family in the face of threats, and she was given political asylum in western Europe.
C.O. told RFE/RL that several political parties have contacted her to propose cooperation on the eve of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 10, but she said that she had rejected those offers.
She said her newspaper "will preserve its ethical platform and remain an independent media outlet."
