Lenin Stands Firm In Kyiv

June 11, 2009

At least a dozen statues of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin remain standing in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Some residents see them as simple historical monuments; others have tried to take down the statues with their own hands. But as disputes continue at the municipal and national levels, Lenin isn't likely to disappear from the city any time soon.

To Johann:
Your adolescent rant comparing Lenin statues, built by the disgraced bolsheviks to glorify their ideological "saint", with private apartment ownership demonstrates a case of mental disorder. Governments, be they city or national, are elected by the people with authority to act for the people. Monuments, streets, squares etc. are public property and their names must reflect public views. Glorifying a long deceased communist murderer in the capital of Ukraine is a disgrace that should have been corrected long time ago. Lenin's name belongs on the garbage dump of history, together with the likes of Hitler, Himmler and Stalin. Shame !.

To Johann:
By your perverted logic, you can become rich. Go back to Europe; finish law school in Germany; help by sueing on behalf of all the poor people that had their statues of Hitler removed. I could go on, but you are probably not from the USA, but just another useful idiot from the kremlin, or wherever.

Evil should not be rewarded with statues.

I totally understand their view point in this debate but as far as it goes this is a Historical relic, although they are not proud of their past they should keep them their as a reminder of it to ensure that this never happens again in the extreme of which it did. Beside the fact that it is a big tourist attraction I know I would love to see it and take a little Lenin home :3
And if they were to remove it should not be dumped in the trash but donated to a museum

Somebody owns this Lenin statues, so trying to take them down " with their own hands" does not have the support of the people of the western world. It is legally a theft! (I spent one year at Law School in Europe).
If I, or somebody owns a apartment
(called condo in The USA)or a car in Kiev Ukraine nobody has the right to take it away from me or somebody else, unless I am ready to sell it to that person. If
so called reformers and anti commies,
( I don't like communists), do want to change the system they have to do it by democratic and legally means that are acceptable in The West. Otherwise this hooligans will be called fascists and will never get respect from democrats of the world.
