Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has submitted his registration documents to seek a fourth term in office in the December 19 presidential election.

More than 10 other people have expressed their intention to run against Lukashenka, who has been in power since 1994.

His closest challenger, Alyaksandr Milinkevich, pulled out earlier this month, saying he believed the poll would be rigged.

The European Union and the United States have long shunned Lukashenka, accusing him of maintaining power through illegitimate elections and suppressing dissent.
