ROSTOV-NA-DONU -- About 70 workers at the TagAZ machine building plant in the Russian city of Rostov-na-Donu are on strike because of overdue wages, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Sergei Penchukov, a TagAZ trade union official, said the workers at the plant's assembly shop No. 26 went on strike on April 21.
Penchukov says the workers are demanding overdue salaries -- which they say have not been paid in two months -- and have stopped working according to Article 142 of Russia's Labor Code, which says workers have a right to stop working if their salaries are overdue by at least 15 days.
TagAZ management refused to comment on the issue.
Since its creation in 1998, TagAZ has made vehicles for the South Korean automaker Daewoo and Citroen. It has some 2,600 workers.
