Moldova's acting president, Mihai Ghimpu, has dissolved parliament and set early parliamentary elections for November 28.

Ghimpu, who has been acting head of state since last September, said immediately before signing the decree dissolving parliament that he is "only guided by the constitution and laws."

The election will see Ghimpu's four-party Alliance for European Integration grouping face off against the opposition Communists, who were ousted from power amid protests last year.

Moldova is one of Europe's poorest states.
