MOSCOW -- Some 20 demonstrators in Moscow have demanded the release of a youth activist being held in Siberia, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Artem Loskutov, 23, was arrested in the western Siberian city of Novosibirsk on May 15 and charged with illegal drug possession.

Protester Vsevolod Sergeyev of the Vpered (Forward) socialist movement, told RFE/RL on May 26 that Loskutov was arrested for his political activities.

Loskutov is one of the organizers of a May Day "political performance" called Monstration held on May 1 each year.

Monstration is an improvised performance of protesting and criticizing government actions using specific artistic forms, including acting.
