MOSCOW -- Activists demonstrated at the Turkmen Embassy in Moscow to protest the arrest in Turkmenistan of environmentalist Andrei Zatoka, RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reports.
On October 27, some 20 protesters held signs saying "Freedom For Zatoka," "No to repression in Turkmenistan," and "Eight-day investigation reminds us of the Stalin era!"
Demonstration organizers told RFE/RL that they will protest again on October 29 when hearings into Zatoka's case are scheduled to begin.
Zatoka was arrested in the northern Turkmen city of Dashoguz on October 20. He has officially been charged with hooliganism and assault on an unnamed person.
Zatoka and his supporters said they consider the case against the environmentalist to be politically motivated because of his activism.
