Evicted Music Students Living In Tent City In Russia’s Far East

TEXT SIZE - +
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia -- Students who were forced to leave their dormitories at the Vladivostok Music College in Russia's Far East have set up tents next to the school in order to have somewhere to stay, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Local authorities explained that the students were expelled because the dormitories were needed to house other local residents whose own apartments were unsuitable to live in.

A local NGO, TIGR, is helping the students to set up the tent city.

Aleksandr Barashkov of TIGR said that students from other cities studying at the Music College have been suffering for a week now, and that they had no other option than to set up a tent campus.

The TIGR activists have started collecting warm clothes and sleeping bags for the displaced students as the weather begins to turn cold.
