Musicians YouTube It For Iran

June 29, 2009
Artists all over the world are YouTubing their support for the Iranian people. Watch Joan Baez singing part of the legendary protest anthem "We Shall Overcome" in Farsi here:

Or take popular Berlin rock band "Samavayo" -- their new song "Tehran Girl" is all Iran, complete with a (warning) graphic music video using footage from the street protests:

With most of the new songs showcasing on "Broadcast Yourself" YouTube, amateur acts are also in the mix. Check out Jason Carl rocking out in a makeshift studio to "Iran Yes We Can" here.

And going more mainstream, as we've already had on the Iran Election Diary, there's also Jon Bon Jovi and Andy singing "Stand By Me."

I don't think any of them have managed yet to find a rhyme for Ahmadinejad.

About This Blog
Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
