(RFE/RL) -- Pakistani intelligence officials say at least six suspected militants were killed today by a U.S. missile strike in the North Waziristan tribal region near the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistani officials say three missiles fired from a U.S. drone aircraft targeted a stronghold of the Haqqani network, an Al-Qaeda-linked militant faction that has been attacking NATO-led forces across the border in Afghanistan.

The missiles exploded in a village on the outskirts of the region's main town of Miranshah.

Pakistani officials say a similar missile strike last week killed a son of Jalaluddin Haqqani, the leader of the group.
