BAKU -- Police dispersed an unsanctioned opposition rally in the center of Baku on July 31, reportedly arresting around 100 people.

The antigovernment protest was organized by the opposition Musavat and Popular Front parties.

Protesters were calling for free elections and were also attempting to highlight what they say is a lack of civil liberties in the country.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is currently holding negotiations with Baku city authorities in an attempt to lift restrictions on rallies in central locations.
