Police Investigate Attack Against Ufa Journalists

UFA, Bashkortostan -- Police are investigating an assault on two journalists in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Natalya Afanasiyeva and Damir Khuziev, reporters for the "Independent Ural Newspaper," told the Prosecutor's Office that unknown people are preventing them from performing their jobs after they were attacked in Bashkortostan's capital, Ufa. They had been attending the Russian media festival "Values System," which ended December 13.

They told investigators the assailants hit them and took their media cards, a mobile phone, and a flash card.

Their injuries were documented at a hospital.
