Protest In Moscow Against Fascism, Ultranationalism

MOSCOW -- More than 1,000 activists gathered in downtown Moscow today to protest against ultranationalism, racism, and fascism in Russia, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The protesters gathered near the Griboyedov monument holding signs saying "Russia Against Fascism!"

RFE/RL's correspondent reports from the scene that activists of the For Human Rights nongovernmental organization also took part in the event.

Russia today is marking the Day of Russian Unity.

A movement against illegal immigration that is known for its xenophobic and ultranationalist stance also held an action called "The Russian March" in Moscow today.

No clashes were reported.
