RFE/RL's Moscow Bureau Chief, Vladimir Baburin, Dies

MOSCOW -- Vladimir Baburin, the chief editor of RFE/RL's Moscow Bureau, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Baburin, 47, graduated from the journalism faculty at Moscow State University. Before joining RFE/RL in August 1995, he was a freelancer for the German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

He had also worked at the USSR State Television and Radio Corporation, for Radio Rossiya, and Russian state television.

Baburin anchored such popular RFE/RL Russian Service programs as "The Time of the Guests" and "Face to Face."

Additionally, Baburin was the author of numerous radio stories on political, economic, and social issues in modern Russia.

He is survived by a wife and son.
