Rebel Leader Reported Killed In Ingushetia

NAZRAN, Russia -- A suspected Islamic insurgent leader has reportedly been killed in Russia's volatile republic of Ingushetia, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Police say Magomed Gardanov was surrounded by security forces in a mosque in Ingushetia's largest city of Nazran and killed in an ensuing shoot-out.

Two locals were severely wounded by gunfire and hospitalized.

The press service of the Ingushetian president's office said Gardanov was wanted for his role in organizing several terrorist actions against security forces.
