Russian Activists Plan Rally To Support Dissident Police Officer

NOVOROSSIISK, Russia -- Russian human rights activists will hold a rally to support dissident police officer Aleksei Dymovsky, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Vadim Karastelev, a member of the Novorossiisk Committee for Human Rights, told RFE/RL that the rally is scheduled to be held on November 28 in the southwestern port city of Novorossiisk, Dymovsky's hometown.

The major goal of the action will be to demand that Dymovsky be reinstated to the police force after the investigation into his allegations is completed.

Dymovsky, a police major, was fired from Novorossiisk's Interior Department on November 8 after he placed a video on YouTube accusing police in Novorossiisk of corruption.

On November 10 he held a press conference in Moscow to further discuss his allegations of police wrongdoing.

Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev ordered an investigation into Dymovsky's allegations.
