Russian Communists Protest Alleged Election Violations

TEXT SIZE - +
TVER, Russia -- Communist Party activists in the northwestern Russian city of Tver have held a demonstration to protest against alleged violations in recent nationwide elections, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Activists representing Russia's Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) joined the action, which led to hundreds of demonstrators gathering in front of the building where Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has an office.

Protesters held banners and sang songs during the protest, at which police were present. One demonstrator was detained.

Protesters told RFE/RL the rally was held to protest the conduct and results of the October 11 municipal elections held across Russia. They said they consider the results to have been falsified.

On October 14, Duma deputies representing the Communist Party, LDPR, and A Just Russia walked out of the lower house of parliament to protest the results of the elections.
