Russian Duma Official Arrested On Bribery Charges

MOSCOW -- A Russian State Duma official has been arrested for allegedly taking a $70,000 bribe, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

A Moscow Interior Ministry official from its Economic Safety Department said Duma aide Viktor Sokhastky was given the money in exchange for ensuring an inquiry of law enforcement officials in an effort to stop an audit of an unnamed Moscow nightclub.

Sokhastky was arrested in a parking lot when he went to pick up the money.

An Interior Ministry spokesperson said a criminal case has been opened against Sokhastky.
