YEKATERINBURG, Russia -- A court in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg has sentenced a member of the opposition Other Russia movement to one year in prison, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Aleksei Nikiforov, a former leader of the banned National Bolshevik Party's regional branch and a correspondent for the kasparov.ru website, was found guilty by the court of extremist activities and igniting interethnic hatred.
Prosecutors say he drew graffiti on walls and fences in Yekaterinburg that was offensive to some members of society.
In 2007, Nikiforov was found guilty of desecrating the Russian flag and sentenced to three months in a minimum-security jail.
He said in court that he does not consider himself guilty and called the verdict "the judge's big mistake."
