Police in the city of Chelyabinsk have detained three local journalists who were publicly protesting downtown for payment of overdue earnings, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Anastasia Bogomolova, Ilya Knapsky, and Yelizaveta Kolesnikova staged the downtown event to draw attention to back pay and severance payments they say they are owed in connnection with work for "Gazetachel," an online publication controlled by regional council deputy and entrepreneur Valery Alekshin.

Authorities detained them on the scene for holding an unsanctioned gathering.
