Official In Russia's Far East Charged With Abuse Of Office

VLADIVOSTOK -- A deputy governor of the Primorsky Krai region in Russia’s Far East has been charged with abuse of office, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Pavel Popov stands accused of illegally providing financing for a project on Russky Island in Vladivostok while he was running the region's Economic Department between 2003 and 2006.

According to investigators, the region lost 3 million rubles ($96,000) because of the malfeasance.
