Turkish MP Warns Karabakh Will Affect Armenia Ties

TEXT SIZE - +
ANKARA (Reuters) -- Lack of progress by Azerbaijan and Armenia toward resolving their dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh would affect Turkey's parliamentary approval of separate accords to normalize ties with Armenia, a senior AK Party MP said.

"Lack of progress towards the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani problems will certainly affect the parliamentary process," Murat Mercan, chairman of the ruling AK Party parliamentary foreign affairs committee told Reuters late on October 7.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Serzh Sarksyana were due to hold talks on October 8 in Moldova.

Christian Armenia and Muslim Turkey are expected to sign historic accords on October 10 regularizing ties and ending a century of hostility.
