Russian news agencies report that about 30 people have been detained as they held a "Day of Wrath" demonstration outside the office of the Moscow mayor today.

Police detained demonstrators on charges of taking part in an unsanctioned meeting and obstructing traffic.

Among those detained was the head of the For Human Rights movement, Lev Ponomaryov.

The Interfax news agency reported that some of the demonstrators were demanding Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov resign.

Luzhkov remained on vacation during the first days of wildfires near Moscow that caused thick smog over the Russian capital.
