OSH, Kyrgyzstan -- Melis Tashiev says two policemen suspected of killing his brother, independent journalist Almaz Tashiev, in Kyrgyzstan's southern city of Osh have been illegally released, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

The two policemen, Shukurbek Nurmatov and Nurgazy Batyrbek-uulu, were arrested in July for their alleged involvement in beating Almaz Tashiev, who later died in hospital.

Melis Tashiev told RFE/RL that the policemen's lawyers forged his mother's signature under a petition asking the Nookat District Court to release the suspects.

Nurmatov and Batyrbek-uulu were transferred from a detention center to house arrest earlier this month.
