Tajik Police Detain Two Russian Soldiers In Murder Case

TEXT SIZE - +
DUSHANBE-- Tajik police have detained two Russian soldiers on suspicion of murder in Tajikistan's southern Khatlon district, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

Tajik Interior Ministry spokesman Mahmadullo Asadulloev told RFE/RL that the detained soldiers are suspected of involvement in the murder of a taxi driver last month.

The killing took place near a Russian military base near the Tajik-Afghan border.

Asadulloev said investigators have collected enough evidence to prove that the detained Russian soldiers were involved in the crime.

The Russian military base -- which has more than 7,000 troops – contributes to monitoring the Tajik-Afghan border.
