Thousands Of Kyrgyz Villagers Cutoff By Snowfall

KARA-KULJA, Kyrgyzstan -- The Alaykuu Valley in Kyrgyzstan's southern Osh region has been isolated for the last three days after a heavy snowfall, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

More than 20,000 people are trapped in the valley, as all communications have been cut off with other parts of the region.

Local officials have assured people that the roads will be cleared of snow by today.
