TEXT SIZE - +
An imam was killed in an attack on a mosque in Daghestan and a policeman killed in a bombing in Ingushetia as violence continued today in Russia's North Caucasus region.

An unknown assailant opened fire on people going to a mosque in the Daghestani capital, Makhachkala, killing the imam and wounding another man.

In Ingushetia, a bomb exploded in a store in the village of Tagapshi, killing a policeman and wounding more than 10 other people.

Another explosive device was found in the nearby town of Malgobek near a statue.

When police arrived someone threw a grenade and fired on the policemen. That assailant was killed when police returned fire.

Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus region has often been the scene of violence as separatist groups resist Russian rule.
