BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi government has announced an agreement to take over two more U.S. detention centers in Iraq, Radio Free Iraq (RFI) reports.

Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman Major-General Abdul Karim Khalaf told RFI that the U.S. detention facility Camp Bucca in southern Iraq and Camp Cropper near Baghdad's airport will be handed over to the Iraqi Justice Ministry in six months, while the infamous Abu Ghraib prison will be reopened to jail some 15,000 inmates.

According to the security agreement signed between Iraq and the United States at the end of last year, detainees in U.S. custody must either be released or turned over to Iraqi authorities.

Khalaf said U.S. forces are each month presenting Iraqi officials with official cases of jailed Iraqis.
