MOSCOW (Reuters) -- Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has tendered his resignation after German police detained him for drunken and disorderly conduct at Frankfurt airport, Interfax news agency has reported.

Interfax quoted Ukraine's speaker of parliament, Volodymyr Lytvyn, as saying that Lutsenko had asked lawmakers to consider his resignation.

Lutsenko's ministry had previously said accounts of the confrontation with police at the airport were untrue.

Frankfurt police said on May 6 that Lutsenko was prevented from boarding a flight to Seoul, South Korea, after airport officials noticed that he and his 19-year-old son were severely drunk.

When they were stopped, both passengers flew into a rage, shouted and threw their mobile telephones, police said.
