LVIV – The jailed former chairman of the Court of Appeals in the Ukrainian city of Lviv says he will start a hunger strike on September 4, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.
In late 2008, Ukraine's prosecutor general launched an investigation into allegations that Ihor Zvarych accepted bribes.
Investigators found millions of dollars in cash in his office and house. Zvarych denies the accusations.
RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service quotes Zvarych’s press secretary as saying that Zvarych will continue the hunger strike until all his requests are taken into consideration and a proper decision is are made.
On September 4, the prosecutor general is expected to make a decision on whether Zvarych should remain in preliminary detention.
