KYIV -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has appointed veteran diplomat Oleh Dyomin as the new ambassador to Kazakhstan, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

The president's press service informed journalists that Yanukovych met with Dyomin in Crimea today and asked him to prepare the upcoming visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev to Ukraine scheduled for September.

Dyomin, 63, was formally Ukraine's ambassador to Russia.

In April 2008, then-President Viktor Yushchenko removed Dyomin from his post for reaching retirement age.
