White House Monitoring Crackdown In Iran

TEXT SIZE - +
The White House has expressed concern over a violent crackdown on antigovernment protesters in Iran.

Iranian security forces clubbed antigovernment demonstrators in Tehran on November 4 on the sidelines of state-sanctioned rallies to mark the 30th anniversary of the U.S. Embassy takeover.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the White House was monitoring events.  On the eve of the anniversary, U.S. President Barack Obama said he wanted the United States and Iran to move beyond "suspicion, mistrust, and confrontation."
