Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah has threatened to withdraw from an audit of votes cast in the June 14 runoff.
Fazel Ahmad Manawi, a senior member of Abdullah's campaign team, said on August 26 that the process was a "joke."
He asserted that election officials have "no intention of throwing out" ballots deemed fraudulent in the audit.
Manawi said Abdullah's demands over how fraudulent votes should be discarded had been ignored.
He warned if Abdullah's demands are not met by the morning of August 27, he will pull out of the audit and "consider it finished."
The election process has entered a deadlock after both Abdullah and his election rival, Ashraf Ghani, claimed victory.
The audit was agreed to resolve the dispute.
Both candidates are expected to meet later on August 26 with outgoing President Hamid Karzai, who says the inauguration must take place as scheduled on September 2.
