Activists Detained, Not Allowed To Ask Putin 'Inconveniet Questions'

Police in Moscow detained 19 activists near the International Trade Center building where President Vladimir Putin held his annual news conference on December 18.

The group of 40 activists led by independent journalist Yevgeny Levkovich tried to gather near the building in order to ask Putin what they said were "inconvenient questions."

On December 17, Levkovich appealed to all those who wanted to ask Putin questions which "most likely will not be asked" during the news conference to gather outside the venue.

Police forced the activists to leave the premises and detained 19 of them. All were released hours later.

The activists say police requested them to write statements, but they refused to do so. The police did not file any charges.
