A spate of attacks across Iraq have left at least 19 people dead and dozens more injured.

A suicide bomber targeted a Shi’ite mosque in the northern city of Kirkuk, killing at least four people and wounding 40 more.

The attack occurred outside the mosque, where people had gathered to mourn the victims of an attack on May 15.

Car bombs also hit Shi’ite neighborhoods in Baghdad for the second consecutive day, killing at least 12 people.

In the northern city of Mosul, a suicide bomber killed two soldiers.

In Baghdad's Baiyaa district, gunmen shot dead the brother of a Sunni lawmaker.

The violence on May 16 comes a day after more than 30 people died in bomb attacks across Iraq, which has seen a sharp increase in sectarian violence in recent weeks.

The spike in violence comes amid growing tensions between Iraq's Sunni Muslims and the Shi'ite-led government.

Sunni Muslims accuse Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's government of marginalizing and persecuting their minority community.

In televised remarks on May 16, Maliki blamed "sectarian hatred" for the surge in violence.
