Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan says his country has implemented about half of the measures needed to join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.

Sarkisyan says the key issue remaining for Yerevan is that of customs tariffs on a “range of goods” that are higher in the Customs Union than in Armenia.

He says Yerevan will submit a list of “very sensitive” items for which it will need exemptions.

He said Armenia also is concerned about the protection of intellectual property and technical regulations of the Customs Union.

Yerevan officials say legislation regarding Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union will be introduced in parliament by the end of March.

Armenia declared its intention to join the Customs Union in September and signed a roadmap for membership in Moscow in December.

Based on reporting by Itar-Tass, Armenpress and Arka.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
