Heavy Flooding In Northern Afghanistan

July 17, 2004

17 July 2004 -- In northern Afghanistan, severe flooding reportedly has killed at least 16 people and destroyed more than 200 houses.

The Bakhtar state news agency says eight people were killed in Badakhshan province and another eight in Baghlan following heavy rains this week.

The flooding also damaged around 200 hectares of farm land and killed livestock.

The South Asia region, especially Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, is dealing with the worst flooding in nearly two decades.
