Terror Suspects Arrested In Saudi, Britain, U.S.

6 August 2004 -- Terrorist suspects have been reported arrested in Saudi Arabia, Britain, and the United States. Saudi authorities said one of the kingdom's most-wanted militants, Faris al-Zahrani, was arrested on the evening of 5 August.

Zahrani is on a list of 26 militants who have been wanted by Saudi authorities for alleged involvement in a series of Al-Qaeda-linked bombings and attacks aimed at destabilizing Saudi Arabia and forcing westerners to flee the kingdom.

British authorities are reported to have arrested 12 terrorist suspects. These are said to include a suspected senior Al-Qaeda operative, known as Abu Eisa al-Hindi, who was allegedly planning an attack on London's Heathrow Airport.

The arrests were reported aided by computer files belonging to two Al-Qaeda suspects arrested in Pakistan last month. Reports say the files also suggested planning for attacks in the United States.

In the United States, officials said two leaders of a mosque in the city of Albany, in New York state, were arrested in connection with a purported terrorist-related plot to buy a shoulder-fired grenade launcher.
