Second Car-Bomb Blast Rocks Baghdad

22 September 2004 -- A second car bomb has exploded in Baghdad today, reportedly causing casualties.

Details concerning the blast are still unclear, but Reuters reported that it happened near a U.S. military convoy.

Earlier, a suspected suicide car-bomb attack in western Baghdad killed at least 11 people and wounded some 50 others.

U.S. forces today clashed with militiamen loyal to Iraqi Shi'a cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in Baghdad's Al-Sadr City neighborhood, reportedly killing 15 people.

North of Baghdad, U.S. forces clashed with insurgents near Samarra. Iraqi police saying four people were killed in that fighting.

Also today, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad reported receiving a headless body from Iraqi authorities but did not reveal the identity of the victim. Iraqi militants claimed yesterday to have executed an American, apparently the second U.S. hostage to be executed in two days.
