Khatamai Says Iran, EU Make Progress On Nuclear Deal

5 April 2005 -- Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said today that Iran and European states have made progress in talks on ensuring Tehran's nuclear program cannot be used for weapons.

Khatami spoke to reporters after talks with French President Jacques Chirac in Paris. Khatami said he thought "steps forward" were taken. He added that Iran has proposed an "overall plan" to resolve the problem.

Senior officials from Britain, France, Germany, and Iran are to meet in London on 29 April to continue discussing Iran's proposal that it be allowed to keep a small enrichment facility. The facility would be closely monitored by the UN nuclear watchdog.
