Chechen Separatist Fighters Kill Police In Ambush

June 10, 2005

10 June 2005 -- Chechen separatist fighters killed seven police officers in an attack in southern Chechnya yesterday.

Russian news agencies say the fighters ambushed a police car near the village of Kurchaloi, firing a direct hit with a grenade launcher.

The attack killed seven police officers on the spot and seriously wounded another one.

Attacks by separatist fighters remain daily events in Chechnya, despite Russia's claims that the situation it the war-devastated republic is stabilizing.
